Trust the Unknown
“The best way to find out if you can trust somebody is to trust them.” — Ernest HemingwayOlivia is my last baby. There’s something special to being so completely needed by her. Because she refuses to take a bottle, she and I go everywhere together. We take small breaks from each other, but just a few hours at a time. But the time has come where the breaks need to be longer and where I must surrender control. Until now, the breaks have required little trust as they’ve been largely supervised by family, but now that’s no longer an option. The only option is the unknown. We found a potential nanny who I very thoroughly researched but still, I feel the panic spread through my body.
Once I’ve cried it all out and can breathe again, I feel the same nudge I felt so many times before. The nudge to trust. 1 Peter 5:7 says, “Give all your worries and care to God, for he cares about you.” I remind myself, “He cares for you.” I can rest in that. He cares about my anxiety over leaving Olivia. He cares about Olivia.
I’m not trading the known for the unknown. I’m trading my known for the better known. Where my known plan and control will often fail and fall short, He never does.
Holiness in the Mess:
- Where is the Lord nudging you to trust today?
- Take some time to reflect. Notice times of the day when you feel stressed or overwhelmed. Take note of what is happening. Perhaps this is an area where trust can be grown.
Steps to Salvation:
The Bible states that God loves you and cares for you as a person (John 3:16). Humankind has been separated from God by sin (Romans 3:23). God sent His Son as a provision for our salvation through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross and His resurrection from the dead (Romans 5:8). Doing good deeds is not enough (Ephesians 2:8-9), but receiving the free gift of salvation is (John 1:12).
You can invite Jesus Christ into your life right now by praying something like the following:
Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I need Your forgiveness and grace. I believe that Christ paid the penalty for my sin, and He died in my place, and He rose from the dead. I invite Jesus Christ to come into my life as Savior. Thank You for saving me from my sin and making me Your child. Help me to grow and learn how to serve You. Amen.
